Ingold proposed a scale for measurement of inductive effect and groups of atoms in which hydrogen atom is taken as reference in the molecule R3C-H.
The atoms or groups are compared with this compound. In case of deuterium it has more positive charge than hydrogen hence it will show +I effect.
