hi friend,
CH3-CO-CH(OH)2 methyl,methyl (gem diol) ketone (1,1 gemdihydroxy propanone )
CH2(OH)-CO-CH2(OH) di methyl alchohol ketone(1,3 dihydroxy propanone)
you can identify the positional isomerism... the functional difference is first one is gem diol and the second one is not gem diol...
CH3-CH(OH)-COOH (alpha hydroxy propionic acid) is an functional isomer
Actually, gem-diol and vic-diol or any other diol - these are common names. They cannot be regarded as functional isomers.
So, the first two compounds do not exhibit functional isomerism. I'm looking for two compounds which have both osition as well as functional isomerism (in the same way the two compounds that I have given).
But you can consider alpha hydroxy propionic acid in functional isomerism. So, if we consider 1 and 3 or 2 and 3, they have functional isomerism but they do not have position isomerism.
If you want to ask anything, then you may do so!!!
Since I come online here at GOIIT for a very less time, you can nudge me. I'll see it there.
Thanks!!!

i can surely help u.. pls post your ques in detailed manner..
