ISOMERISMcan cyclopentan-1,2- di.ol considered as functional isomer of pentanoic acid.   They have same structural formula

Compounds having the same molecular formula but different functional groups are called as functional isomers and the phenomenon is called functional isomersim.

The given example falls into this catagory, so we consider them as functional isomers. However, I have not come across such an example in the books referred.
