only sulphonic acids have more priority in naming than carboxylic acids.

e.g if a compound has -OH , -COOH and -SO3H, then we name it as hydroxy, carboxy, sulphonic acid

rate if satisfied

no victory is small enough to disallow the prevailance of hope.

Sulphonic acids hv higher priority as compared to caboxylic acid.
if Sulphonic acid and caboxylic acid r present together in a compound we use the pefix carboxy.

The structure 4 Sulphonic acid is R-SO3H.

Hope u find it useful.....

As per the list of groups in priority order in NCERT XI book carboxylic acid has highest priority. However in one of the books sulphonic acid group has been shown higher priority than carbocylic acid group.
The compound CH2COOH
                       CHCOOH
                       CH2COOH
is named as propane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid.
The compound
HOOC-H2C-CH-CH2-CH2-COOH
                  CH2COOH
is named as 3-(carboxymethyl)hexanedioicacid.
Hope above examples would clear your doubt about using carboxy suffix.
