this is bcoz of hyperconjugation effect as it is o-p directing under inductive effect it would have been meta directing as well

Due to Hyperconjugation the electorn density at o-p Carbons..
If the adding grp is a electrophile it will come at o-p.
in VERY rare cases.. if it is an nucleophile it will be added at meta-.
only 1 alkyl grp -C(CH3) is meta-directing due to its size!!
