Bromination of ethane with bromine in presence of light or 670K to form bromoethane. Bromoethane on reaction with aq. KOH gives ethanol, which on oxidation gives ethanoic acid. Decarboxylaation of ethanoic acid with sodalime gives methane. methane in presence of molybdenum oxide with oxygen under pressure gives methanal ( formaldehyde), wich on oxidation gives formic acid ( methanoic acid)
Ethanoic acid can also be obtained by oxidation of ethane in presence of silver oxide, then again the rest of the above steps can be followed.

C2H6 + NaOH ---> CH3CH2OH then CH3CH2OH when reacted with KMnO4 , it converts to CH3COOH.
