i think the carbylamine reaction will do the job, i feel parahydroxy benzoic acid will not give carbylamine test, where as paraamino benzoic acid will giv an isocyanide, is it correct, if any misconception plzz correct me!

5993 Both the compounds are soluble in hotwater, alochol and ether. Melting point difference is sufficient to separate them by fractional crystalisation from alochol, but I have doubt about this method. The mixture can be added to alcohol saturated with HCl gas. P-aminobenzoic acid will form hydrochloride(solid) which can be separated. p-hydroxybenzoic acid will not form any solid(however may get esterified). The hydrochloride obtained can be hydrolysed back to acid. The solution alog with the ester(if any formed)can also be hydrolysed back to p-hydroxybenzoic acid.
