carboxylic acids on catalytic hydrogenation will not give alcohols or aldehydes. WHY????????

carboxylic acids on catalytic hydrogenation, i.e. reduction with LiAlH4 GIVE alcohols!!!! for more reference refer Morrison- Byd reations of carboxylic acids...... in tyhe new edition it is on page 763....

Catalytic Hydrogenation means H2/Ni .... or H2/Pd not LiAlH4

Hi ramkumar, Yaar, LiAlH4 does the same work yet more effciently. its reduces [ i.e adds H2 ] to the compound. its given in NCERT.

i know LiAlH4 reduces more efficiently.......... but i want to know the reason why H2/Ni will not reduce it when it can reduce double bond effectively.........
