sniper....... are you 100% sure that its meta director......................
coz this question appeared in fiitjee full test III ............. the answer given is o/p director..... but i believe that it is meta director............
so i want someone to tell the correct answer. please...........

Yaar, just keep ur concepts clear,strong and have confidence in ur concepts.
For a gp to be meta director, the basic condition is that the element joined directly to the ring must have a positive or a partial positive charge. Now in NO+ when it will combine with benzene, it will form Ph-NO. Now in Ph-NO, as O is more electronegative than N, it means N has a partial positive charge. Hence it will pull the bonded pair of eletrons of ring towards itself.
Hence it is meta directing atleast according to me. Dont know what and why FIITJEE test says.
