Hi,

A sample of synthetic camphor contains both 'd' and 'l' isomers in unequal amounts. The specific rotation of the sample is -13.9.. What is the enantiomeric excess of the sample?

Can you please tell me how to do this problem? thanks.

It is just simple..
since it have -ve sign, it mean degre of polrization is more towards anticlockwise direction.
d - for clockwise, l - for anticlock wise.
It means l- isomers is in excess of sample.

Sometimes, its better to see behind ourselves to enlighten our forward direction.
