A sample of synthetic camphor contains both d and l isomers in unequal amounts .The specific rotation of the sample found to be -13.90 . What is the enantiomeric excess of the sample??? note:- the whole question was given as such, no other information provided.

Acc to me the answer shud be = l isomer is present in excess becoz its rotation is represented by -ve sign.
|

% Enantiomeric excess = observed specific rotation / Specific rotation of pure sample * 100 = 13.9 / 44.1 * 100 = 31.5 % becoz specific rotation of pure camphor is 44.1

Does it mean that to do this ques, we must know the specific rotation of camphor??????
Generally this data shud be given with the question itself.
Hum kitne compounds ke specific rotation yaad rakhenge? It shud be given with the ques.
