4 grms of hydrocarbon on complete combustion gave 12 grams of co2.what is the emperical formula of hydrocarbon?

HELLO.

let hydrocarbon is c_xh_y.

c_xh_y+(x+y/4)o₂---------------xco₂+(y/2)h₂o

no.of moles of c_xh_y=no.of moles of co₂/x

4/12x+y =12/44x ..............eq.1

from here we get y=8/3 x hence emp.formula=c₃h₈
