Anisole on reaction with HCN + HCl in presence of AlCl3 followed by hydrolysis gives p-methoxy benzaldehyde( Gattermann Aldehyde synthesis)

HCN + HCl in presence of AlCl3 ..........> HN=CHCl

C6H5OCH3 + HN=CHCl in presence of AlCl3 ........>CH3O-C6H4-CH=NH(p) hydrolysis with H2O ......> CH3O-C6H4-CHO(p)
