Methoxyl benzene when treated with N-methylformanilide in presence of phosphoryl chloride gives p-methoxyl benzaldehyde.

Similarly p-methoxy phenyl lithium when treated with ethyl orthoformate and subsequent hydrolysis of the intermediate gived p-methoxy benzaldehyde.
