inductive effect: when an electron withdrawing or an electron releasing group is attached to carbon chain, polarity is induced on the carbin atom and to the substituent attached to it. this polarity is permanent and is due toelectron displacement due to difference in electronegativities. this is simply called i-effect.
-i effect:- this is due to electron attracting groups(X); it develops a positive charge on the carbon chain and is said to exert a -ve ind.effect, denoted by(-i).
C----->-----X +i effect is the opposite of -t effect. sry i cant type all the details as my notes has abt 15 pgs.
