Tertiary alcohols are resistant to oxidation, but are oxidised by acid oxidising agents to a mixture of a ketone and an acid each containing lesser number of carbon atoms  than the original alcohol. Jones reagent being an acidic oxidising agent will give the above reaction.

jones reagent is 8N of H2CrO4+aquoes H2SO4 when it reacts with tertiary alcohol it gives keetone
