Carbon next to functional group is alpha carbon for e.g in CH₃CH₂COOH C in bold is alpha carbon & in CH₃CH₂OH Carbon in bold is alpha carbon

allylic carbon is the carbon attached to another carbon which is attached to double bond. CH2=CH-CH3.the bold carbon is allylic.

carbon attached alpha carbon is called beta carbon

CH₃-CH₂-OH

allylic carbon is the carbon attached to CH₂=CH-CH₃
