d & l stands 4 dextrorotatary & leavorotatory substances
DEXTROROTATORY sub.
optically active substances which rotate the plane of polarisation of plain polarised light towards right.
LEAVOROTATORY sub.
optically active substances which rotate the plane of polarisation of plain polarised light towards left.
for eg lactic acid it will be of two tpe d-lactic acid and l-lactic acid

+ and - refer to the sign of rotation d- or l-
 
D- and L- refer to the position(left or right) of -OH or -NH2 on the last chiral carbon.
There are compounds which are D(-) and those which are L(+)
