which of the following has a shorter C-Cl bond length..CH3Cl , CH2Cl2, CH3Cl, CCl4The answer is CCl4 , but I dont understand how is it so...i need the logic and reasoning behind it...please help....

THE REASON IS STERIC FACTOR

INCH3Cl 3H AND ONE Cl....cl is bulkier than H....that is why in CCl4 MOST BULKY AND BOND LENGTH IS MORE....

thats due to more ionic character
