Hello dear
Sodium salts of corboxylic acids on heating with soda lime (mixture of sodium hydroxide and calcium oxide) give
alkanes containing one carbon atom less than the corboxylic acid.This process of elimanation of carbon dioxide
from corboxylic acid is known as decorboxylation.
CH3 COO-Na+ +NaOH ---------------------> CH4 +Na2 CO3
decarboxylation means the removal of -COOH group from the compound or somply the removal of CO2
there r various reagents which makes the reaction to proceed towards decarboxylation such as
CaO,through electrolysis,HI in presence of P at about 500k,etc

RCOOH-------------------> R-H + CO2
(heated, in the presence of sodalime (NaOH+CaO)
