Hi guys, I am the father of water demon
I have been trying to ask you few queries for quite some time now. I am
little
confused & worried about my son?s career as usually a father is, when
his son is
in 12th standard. He has been telling me that he is doing well at goiit
site but
I never paid much attention until he told me that he is now one among
the
expert. Could you please be kind to help me to find the answer to the
following
few questions:-
1. Which engineering branch he should choose
2. What if he did not get branch/trade of his choice? Is it better to
take
admission in some good regional college where he can get branch of his
choice or
whatever branch he may get he must get into IIT?
3. What are other options available if he does not make to the IIT?
4. If he does not make it this time, should he try next year once
again?

I hope you understand now what I want to know and must appreciate if
you can
help.

If anyone of you can give me your personal e mail address I can get in
touch for
any further advice if required in future. My e mail address is
gorion@gmmport.pt
<mailto:gorion@gmmport.pt> you may reply at this but please write in
subject
?mail for chief engineer.?
Thanking you in advance
RK Aery.

Hello Sir ,

I know sir I am not capable of answering your queries but he certainly is one of the brightest stars at this site.I think Nikhil is going to get a good rank in IIT because of his hard work over the last couple of years .Well your other questions like which branch to choose ........and others will certainly be answered by other experts. However you are lucky that you don't have to worry much like my father does!! And as a friend or rather a competitor I think he is going to give a lot of people a hard run for their money.I wish him all success.

Good Evening
It gives me immense pleasure to talk about this star. You have shown ur concern about which branch he should opt for. Since his childhood he must had a dream let him fulfil it by opting for the branch which he dreamed to be in.
2. A institute doesnot really matters its the student who matters the most. He will b selected at a gud place on the basis of his studies not on the basis of the college he is passed out from.
3. If he doesn gets into iit he can get into NIT's and other good government college make sure he does not goes into an private college.
4. In my opinion dropping vl not b acceptable

Hope my small step vl help u take a decission regarding his future

My prediction for waterdemon is:

IIT - atleast air <3000

AIEEE - air < 7000

BITSAT - 330+ score

He will do very well. He has been working hard.

heyy sir....

first of all lemme tell u....dont take any tensions for him.....hez a great student and a good person...

he will definately make it into the IIT's....(my wishes for him)

anyways for ur queries......(m just telling ma views)

1) well for this i think CSE or ECE i.e computer science and electronics engg are the best nowdays......so ask him to try to get these

ur rank must be somewhere abt 200-800 to get these branches (in delhi bombay kanpur or kgp)

2) if he dont get the branch in wich hez interested......first look at the other options......if hez getting any other good branch...like civil , mechanical (some guys wont prefer mechanical but its a core branch and i think its good)

dun go for low branches like paper n pulp , carpet engg....even if u r getting it in best IIT

and 1 thing......everyone just wants an IIT tag.....that i am an IITian.....but at the end of the day....we want a good job (or i say satisfactory job) wid a good package.....that u can get even if u have done aieee

3) by chance if he doesnt get into any of the IIT's , ask him to try for BITSTAT....

and fill the form (if u havent) coz last date is 31st jan....so hurry up....

then u have IIIT i.e in allahabad and hyderabad

these are good institutions....

then u have got NIT's (10 in total in all over india) , try him to get any good branches here

also some various private institutions......i dun know for all india....bt here near chandigarh its PEC...(punjab engg clg , chandigarh)

Thappar (patiala) as he has told me that hez frm amritsay basically so u wont have any problem sending him in punjab

then u got DCE....

4) See by chance he doesnt get into IIT this time , dun prefer him sitting at home.....atleast ask him to go to any college...(not the worst 1 but a good college) and prepare simultaneously for IIT

i have sat 1 year at home....still i dun feel any difference....

thats all i can say

his rank in IIT must be a 3 digit rank

in AIEEE 3 or 4 digit rank will do (less than 5000)

in BITSTAT score of above 340....

but dun worry....m sure he will get into IIT this time only

God bless....

all the best :) :)

my id is himanshu_o22@yahoo.co.in

if u want to contact...u can

all the best 1ce again :)

1) No one can really answer this and maybe not even he can answer it.As a 12th student , I have doubts whether he'd have any idea what engineering really is.
After his exams , he should search the net about info on various branches , talk to engg. students , faculty , and if possible , visit a good engg coll. and see what goes on there.
At BITS-Pilani , Goa Campus , we often invite 12th std school kids and show them our campus , labs etc.

2)Well , he should aim to get the branch of his choice in the Top 15 Coll.s of India. But to completely ignore the college and take admission just for the course is also wrong.Frankly only the top colleges have that kind of faculty/facilities and exposure needed for becoming a good engg.So , then I'd advise him , not to compromise on the college. But we should discuss this later , there's plenty of time for that.

3)There are many other options as good as the IITs for a committed person.
BITS Pilani University(Pilani , Goa, Hyderabad campuses) are excellent options too. Please visit www.bits360.com for more info.

4)It depends on what his options are.But one should not drop a year just for the IIT tag , if already he's getting in somewhere good.
This too can be decided only after his results come out.

I wish him best of luck.

Dear Parent,

Its great to see how loved/ famous the member is, and also how well he's been performing. I've been eprsonally following up on his performance and am extremely pleased with the product. But however, having gone through the grind myself, i can vouch for one thing. IIT-JEE is a very fickle game. Result epend on a lot of factors, from the student have a cold on the d-day to being sitting in a room with a broken chair (no jokes, i;ve seen people spoil their papers because of that too :)). As i've said a thouand times, I'll say it again. Lets not count the chickens or try to assess ranks (as some of us are currently doing). The tone of your questions is extremely comforting since ou are preparing for every eventuality, and hence encouraging him to put up a fearless battle this time. now for the questions
1. Which engineering branch he should choose
dont fall into that loop for now. Once the results are out, we can all discuss
the same, right here on goiit. lot of our experts are iit grads includin myself,
and so that discussion can happen once the rank is in. so dont worry for now, and only encourage him to crack the exam.

3. What are other options available if he does not make to the IIT?

zillionssss.. i've recurited students throughout the country - from RECs to IITs DCE IITs all over the place.
At one instance, i had picked more boys from IIIT-Allahabad than IIT Kharagpur
So that says it all..plaes do give u a good headstart but once when i was working in a top technology firm, my manager was this genuis woman
who was not even a graduate! can u believe that! So in short, IIITs, BITs, RECs are places which are equally rocking.

2. What if he did not get branch/trade of his choice? Is it better to
take admission in some good regional college where he can get branch of his
choice or whatever branch he may get he must get into IIT?
4. If he does not make it this time, should he try next year once
again?
2 & 4 have the same answer. it will all depend on how kicked he is about going for IITs. Second attempt is not an easy deal. But all the same, it improves the chances of making it with a great rank all the same. So if he is confident and energised, he should definitely fight the battle again. if he is low on energy, picking up what one's got is not bad idea at all

hope this helps

cheers

Dear admin.
Good day

First of all let me express my gratitude for your kind and very
precious
advice. Your mail definitely put me at ease. I don?t know about my
son but
certainly you made me fearless/worriless and have energized the old man
who
otherwise was thinking that his ideas/views have become old
fashioned/foggy/cloudy. Just last week I wrote few similar words to my
niece who
was depressed as she could not crack the MBA entrance exam. I will just
copy and
paste one Para at last to show that I share the similar views and
have great
respect whatever you said in your mail, especially Quote ?As I?ve
said a
thousands times, I?ll say it again. Let?s not count the chickens or
try to
assess ranks (as some of us are currently doing)?unquote. And
Quote? I was
working in a top technology firm; my manager was this genius woman who
was not
even a graduate! Can u believe that!? unquote.

Definitely I believe and hundred percent agree with you beyond doubt
because I
am myself engineering graduate (not from IIT but studied three years in
West
Germany
1984-87) and have gone through the same state of affairs. The
only
difference that my Manager was a Gentleman instead of genius lady.
I know the person of your caliber does not have time to read the
lengthy mail
but let me say once again many thanks for your brief mail which said
everything
I wanted and cleared my hazy vision. Sure I will bother you again in
future
whenever I need your advice.

Bye- n -Take Care.
R K Aery.
