Hi sush,

for a system which is not isolated from its surroundings

S_total=

S_system +

S_surr----------------(1)

S_surr=

H_surr/ T = -

H_system/T

S_total =

S_system+ -

H_system/T (from 1)

multiplying eqn by T,

S_total=T

S_system-

H_system

hence,

H_system-T

S_system=-T

S_total

H_system-T

S_system=

G_system

G=-T

S_total
