chemical bonding is of two types,
ionic and covalent
in covalent bond sharing of electrons takes place, i.e, there will be the overlapping of atomic orbitals to form hybrid orbitals (this is called hybridization)
while in ionic bond transfer of electrons takes place , (there is no overlapping of orbitals, thus no q of hybridisation)
