yes there is difference b/w them..
 according to law of mass equation the rate of a equation is directly proportional to effective conc of the reacting species, each raised to the power which is equal to the correcponding stoichimetric no of the substance appearing in the chemical equation.
 
v1a1 + v2a2-----> v3a3+v4a4
 
r  [a1]v1[a2]v2
how ever at times the obove relation doesnot hold correct in which exponents are not equal to stoichimetric coefficents..
so it becomes
    r [a1]a[a2]b

v1 + v2 = molecularity of a reaction
a + b  = order of a reaction.
