For the decomposition of azoisopropane to hexane and nitrogen at 543 K , the following data are obtained
t=0 sec P(mm of Hg)=35.0
t(sec)=360 P(mm of Hg)=54.0
t(sec)=720 P(mm of Hg)=63.0
Calculate the rate constant.
please reply me.rates assured
Cool goIITian
k = {2.303/t} log [Po(y-1) / yPo - Pt ]
here k = rate constant
Po = initial pressure
Pt = pressure at that instant
y = no. of products
t = time
substitute the given values u get the answer as
k = 2.175 * 10-3 s-1
see this formula holds good for first order rxns...
Blazing goIITian
i have used
azoisopropane -------> hexane + nitrogen
at t = 0 P0 0 0
at t =360 P0 - p p p
P0 = 35
total pressure at t =360 s = P0 + p = 54
p =54 - 35 = 19
so P0 - p = 16
now use K = ln( P0 / P0 - p ) / t
