hyrogen and oxygen are two elements. they combine to form water as a compound. hydrogen is highly inflammable and oxygen is a supporter of combustion then why does water put off fire?
Water puts off fire because when hydrogen and oxygen combine to form water, the resulting compound has properties all together different from that of oxygen and hydrogen. And that is why it's property neither supports combustion nor it is itself combustible, rather it is a controler of combustion.....
yeah...any compound has way different properties than its constituent atoms ( most often)...also take the example of NaCl...both Na and Cl are poisonous for us...but we consume common salt every day...
thanku sir for replying but i want to know that the change of these properties when hyrogen and oxygen combines is due to some phenomenon . If yes that what is it?
