Q. The critical temperature of water is higher than that of O2 because the H2O molecule has. 1. fewer covalent bonds than O2 2. two covalent bonds 3. V-shape 4. dipole moment. ONLY ONE ANSWER IS CORRECT... PLZ GIVE UR ANSWER WITH COMPLETE EXPLANATION RATES ASSURED.

4) dipole moment van der waals constant 'a' means stronger intermolecular forces since Tc is directly pproportional to a, Tc of water is high due to high a ie high value of intermolecular forces
intermolecular forces of water are much higher than of oxygen gas due to dipole moment hence answer is d

dude i too marked the answer as dipole moment... but the answer is given as V-shape... the book says that dipole moment is due to V-shape....
is the book correct....??? does dipole moment always occur in v-shape compounds...???

not necessarily... but i think answer shd be d... they have asked reason for high Tc and not high dipole moment

but this is also correct that dipole moment of whole molecule is due to its shape so i think it is more appropriate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but how will we know that dipole moment is due to V-shape... that too so much...??? the answer is (3) and is correct....saw it in 2 books... are you people so sure the answer is (4)...???

well this question is kind of confusing. actually Tc is becoz of the polarity which in tern depend upon both dipole moment and shape bt yes the dipole moment of water is becoz of its shape.(ie v) The asymmetry of the water molecule leads to a dipole moment in the symmetry plane pointed toward the more positive hydrogen atoms. The measured magnitude of this dipole moment is
