yes it is fairly possible....according to the ellingham diagram, the curves of Gibbs free energy,
for formation of MgO and SiO2 intersect at a particular tempr(sorry i dont hav exact value..but it must sumwhere around 1700K)
and on one of the sides of that intersection point, one of them reduces the other and vicec vers on the other side of curve...
