What is destructive interference of atomic orbitals? if two electrons come close, how can the energy of the molecule increase, it always decreases right?

Formation of molecular orbitals.. is explained using WERNER's theory.... According to that theory.. he considers electrons as WAVES.. and assigns wave functions to it.... Now when 2 atoms with same sign of wave functions come in contact to form a molecular orbital, they undergo constructive interference to form BONDING MOLECULAR ORBITALS.. which have less energy and high stabitility.... here the probability of finding an electron is maximum in betn the nucleii of the molecule formed... Whereas, If the wave functions of different signs come in contact they form ANTI BONDING MOLECULAR ORBITALS which have high energy and less stability... So this thing is entirely based on THE ADDITION and SUBSTRACTION OF WAVE FUNCTIONS....

How can a wave function have a sign?it is just probability density, right?

Wave function is assumed to have sign... actually.. in a orbital electron moves.. and in this theory that electron is considered as a wave which has CRESTS n TROUGHS,.. n the positive half cycle of the wave is taken to be + sign for thae wave function similarly the other too.... what u said is exactly rite...but this the assumption made inorder to explain it n that density is defined mathematically as the square of the wave function....

 hello..................

when the peaks of one wave match the troughs of another , the waves interfere destructively..........the amplitudes of the interfering waves cancel to give a resultant wave a lower amplitude............
