well, hai

if a hydrogen molecule issupplied with energy LESS THAN 13.5kV/atom, the electrons absorb energy and get excited.
due to this, they jump to higher energy levels to match with their high energy. the concept here is any electron with a higher energy is unstable, so in order to attain stability, it'll have to release the extra amt of energy and returns to the ground state.(to the original energy level in which it was before). it will release the extra energy in the form of radiations.these radians when observed under a spectrooscope, are observe to form a hydrogen emission type of spectrum.

Q: how can one electron give rise to so many spectral lines??
ans:tough there is only one electron in a hydrogen atom, we are heating a particular quantity of HYDROGEN GAS WHICH CONSISTS OF THOUSANDS OF HYDROGEN ATOMS!

well, hope this explanation can clear your concept!

It doesn't work to leap a twenty-foot chasm in two ten-foot jumps.

There are three kinds of people; those that make things happen, those that watch things happen and those who don't know what's happening.
