this express the screening of electron in the atom.this helps to calculate the effective atomic number of atom by the formula Zeff=Z-S where S is screening constent.for example we wqant to calculate S of Al electron is 13.for valence electron S value is 0.35,for penultimate 0.85 and for inner electron value is 1 as we go inner side screening value increases .for Al electronic configuration is 2,8,3 but we study at one electron so consider 2 valence electron, apply 2 *0.35.8 *0.85 and 2 *1 total is S and Zeffective =Z-S
