A 360 g sample of 80% Nahco3 and 60% Naco3 is subjeted to thermal decomposition in a container fitted with a condenser. The loss in weight was found to be 66g. Find out the composition of sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate in the mixture....




 


 




 


give a answer with detailed solution. the answer is 315 gms of Nahco3 n 45 gms of Naco3 .RATES FOR SURE........

it's a pity that i have to find the answer from different site n post it here for everyone's benefit. i do not wat hapenned for goiit. I EARLIER POSTED THE SAME QUESTION, but didn't get the correct answer so i asked  it as a expert question here, but no ans here too...........

so iam answering my own question now..........


2NaHco3 ------------- >  Naco3 + co2+ H2O


168 gms ------------> 44 co2   ( for loss in weight, CO2 gas must be taken into account)


x gms -------------> 66 gms of co2


x = 252 gms of NaHco by solving


=> 252 x 100/80 (as the mixture contains  80% of NaHco) = 315 gms....


=>  360 - 315 = 45 gm of  Naco3


 


please correct if it wrong.......

The answer posted appears to be correct. As I am not good in solving such problems I had to verify the mathematical calculations from some enjineering student. As the answer matches with the given answer we may consider it to be correct.


However, I have my own doubt as the temp. of thermal decomposition is not mentioned the final product should be the oxide ( observation of our research work on thermal decomposition of some inorganic compounds). In such case the calculations will change, and you can then modify them .
