thats the latent heat of fusion of ice.

 using the latent heat of fusion of ice i.e. 80 cal/g  or (80x4.2=) 336 J/g     /     or 333.4 J/g  (approx)

energy required for 1 kg of water to freez = 33.4x 1000= 333.4 KJ

which can be accounted as 333.4 KJ Kg-1 .

since the energy is derived out from the liquid system, -ve sign is used i.e. total change in energy is negative.
