i think it should just be ionic bonds.. as da electronegativity diff is high.... however da book contains da answer as co-ordinate bond... plz lemme noe if i m right n correct me if wrong... :D

in BF3 there are 3 covalent bands ie. three B---F bonds. In BF4(-), there is one coordinate bond (B<--F) in addition to the three B---F bonds. Flourine have lone pair of electrons so a flourine ion donates a lone pair of electrons to boron to form a coordinate bond with it.
(note that for the covalent bonds there is a flourine atom bonding with the chlorine but for the dative (coordinate) bond, a flourine ion is donating. This is because the flourine ion has already completed its octet. since it is electron rich now, so it can donate lone pair of electrons.)
