What are bertholite compounds?

|
The bertholite was the name given to a combat gas used by Germans during the First World War. It is a synonym for dichlore (chlorine in a gaseous state), a highly toxic gas that damages the airways of people who inhale it. With a sufficient dose, the gas causes death by asphyxiation.
