it is when the body is changing its state. the body uses this heat called the latent heat because it is hidden. there are two types of latent heats - latent of fusion (melting) and latent heat of vaporisation. rate me............

As many have already discussed..i would just like to add a thing to it. Temperature is the measure of average kinetic energies of the particles forming any body..during a phase change all the heat absorbed is used to loosen the bonds at atomic levels to bring about a change in the so called PHASE of the body..Here, if it is supplied more heat than the latent amount its temprature will surely increase..
