its 2 , if its (a-b)/2

you have to run faster and faster so as to remain where you are.. even if you are on the right track you will get run over if you just keep sitting there...

(cosa+cosb)2+(sina+ sinb)2=kcos2(a-b)/2

LHS
={2cos(a+b)/2 cos(a-b)/2}2+{2sin(a+b)/2 cos(a-b)/2}2
=4cos2(a-b)/2{sin2(a+b)/2+cos2(a+b)/2}
=4cos2(a-b)/2

so k=4

Expanding the LHS, we get

2(1 + cosAcosB + sinAsinB) = 2(1 + cos(A-B)) = 4cos2((A-B)/2)

(using expansion cos2x = 2cos2x - 1)

so, k is 4.
