cos2x varies from -1 to 1 so here the range is from 1/(5+3) to 1/(5-3) i.e. from 1/8 to 1/2

-3 <= 3cos2x <= 3
Now add 5 to each of them :
5 - 3 <= 5 - 3cos2x <= 5 + 3
2 <= 5 - 3cos2x <= 8
1/2 >= 1/(5 - 3cos2x) >= 1/8
Hence the range is [1/8,1/2]
