dot product is a product of a vector with another vector in the direction of the former vector in simpler words if a man pulls a block on the ground such that the force makes an angle with the horizontal then the work done is the dot product of the displacement and the component of the force along the direction of displacement or force and component of the displacement alonf the direction of the force W=F.Scos[theta]it always give a vector as it involves magnitude of two vectors and doesn't deal with direction

The scalar product and the vector product are the two ways of multiplying vectors which see the most application in physics and astronomy. The scalar product of two vectors can be constructed by taking the component of one vector in the direction of the other and multiplying it times the magnitude of the other vector.
