I think this book is an excellent book for those who are VERY weak in physics and want to get all their concepts cleared. But, for those who are quite good at understanding concepts of physics, I don' t think this will help much..

MnO4- ion is coloured such... So KMnO4 is also coloured

If the soup is hot, the temperature is more and the Surface tension is less (Surface tension decreases with increase in temperature)
Therefore the surface area is more and our tongue can taste 'more' soup... So we feel it is tastier

Actually amphoteric oxides give both acids & bases I think..

Flame test (Principle) Flame test is based on the principle that electrons in s block elements are loosely bounded to the nucleus. (IE is less) When they are heated by a flame, the flame provides enough heat energy to excite these electrons to a higher level. On returning back to ground state a colour from the visible spectrum is emitted to the flame. (Atomic spectra) Using these colours, we detect the metals.
Charcoal Cavity Test (Principle) This test is based on the fact that metallic carbonates when heated in a charcoal cavity decompose to give corresponding oxides. The oxides appear as coloured incrustation or residue in the cavity in the charcoal block. In certain cases, the oxides formed partially undergo reduction to the metallic state producing metallic beads or scales. From these oxides the metals are detected.

Due to the inability of Boron to expand its valence shell it shows maximum coordination number of 4. The electrons from other atoms can only be accomodated in the 2s and 2p orbitals..
Rest of the elements in the period also follow the same principle, but oxygen and fluorine, etc. do not form more than 4 bonds because their valence shell would have already been filled with lesser amount of bonds.
Rest of the elements in the group have d orbitals and they can accomodate the electrons from electron donors (such as Lewis bases) in the d orbitals. Thus, they have coordination number more than 4 & behave as Lewis Acids.
Hope that answers your question =)

It did help somewhat, but I need specific time allocation on MUltiple choice, theory & numericals Also, what percentage of questions should be attempted and how many should be right?

I've just started preparing for IIT-JEE (Im in 11th) But I want some guidance on how to prepare.... All I can see so far is you have to practise "x" hours after school and "y" hours on holidays... But WHAT should you prepare in that time? I mean how time should be spent on each: 1. Multiple choice 2. Theory 3. Numericals
and just chemistry, maths, physics in general... Also, what percentage of questions should be attempted and how many should be right? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have joined a coaching institution, not branded though. I have no problem with books, I have some books recommended by the institute already with me.

CASE 1: Considering each orange tastes the same and each banana, apple tastes the same as the other bananas, apples, Using all three, we can make salad in 3C3 ways =1 way
With two, we can make it in: 3C2=3 ways
Therefore total case 1= 4
CASE 2: Considering each orange tastes different and each banana, apple tastes different from the other bananas, apples. Then,
With three fruits we can make: 3C3x4C1x5C1x6C1 =1x4x5x6 =120
With 2 we can make: i) Orange & banana: 3C2x4C1x5C1 =60
ii)Banana & apple: 3C2x5C1x6C1 =90
iii)Orange & apple: 3C2x4C1x6C1 =72
Adding all, we get Total case2 = 120+60+90+72 = 342
TOTAL (case 1&2)=346 types of salad CORRECT??!?!

I think the answer is 4 1 salad with all fruits used once each 2nd is with banana & orange 3rd is with orange & apple 4th is banana & apple
it doesnt matter how many fruits we use, the salad is the same rite?!!
