1. Any  by wave equation which is of the form y = f (t - kx ) represents a
progressive  wave :
a. If the sign of t and x are opposite, wave is propagating along positive x-axis.
b. If the sign of t and x is same , wave is propagating along negative x-axis
c. If t - kx = phase = constant, then  the shape of the wave remains constant.
d. For a given t, y-x graph gives the shaoe of pulse or string.
e. Wave speed ,  c = / k.
f. Particle velocity, v = slope = y / t.
2. Total energy of a loop remains constant.
3. The particle of medium at node remains permanently at rest. Also nodes              divide the medium into loops.All particles of a medium  lying in a loop  vibrate     in the same phase having different amplitude.
4. At node displacement is zero but pressure is maximum and at antinode              displacement is maximum but pressure is minimum.
5. For a given t,the y-x graph gives the shape of the string.
6. If the strings vibrates in 'p' loops. pth harmonic is produced then the frequency     of pth harmonic is
fp = p / 2l ( T / m ) .
7. If a string is vibrating in nth mode of vibration,then
a.number of harmonics =  n
b. number of loops = n
c. number of nodes = n+1
d. number of antinodes = n
e. number of overtones = n -1
8. The meaning of octave is 2, eg- if f2 is nth octave higher than f1 , then
f2  = 2n f1
9. The amplitude of the reflected wave is [ (c2 - c1 ) / (c1 + c2 ) ]Ai and the
amplitude of transmitted wave is  At = Ai [ 2c2 / (c1 + c2 )].
Ai = amplitude of incident wave in first medium
c1 = speed of wave in first medium
c2 = speed of wave in second medium
10. Melde's law : p T = constant

three blocks placed on each other .....friction is present in all surfaces......

case 1:  force f  is applied on the first block
case 2:  force f  is applied on the second block
case 3:  force f  is applied on the third block

i want the fbd of this system  for all three cases

1.MOMENT OF INERTIA
(a)    CALCULATION OF MOMENT OF INERTIA BY DIGITS:

M.I about an axis of symmetry is     [M] mass  *   the sum of squares of                                                                                          perpendicular semi axis
______________________________
N
where N = 3 --- for rectangular body
4 --- for elliptical (including circular)
5 --- for ellipsoidal (including spherical)
ex- for ellipse
Iz  = M/4  ( a2 + b2 )
(b) The sum of moment of masses about its centre of mass is always  zero.
(c)  Rolling motion  on an inclined plane :
velocity        v = [2gs] / [  1+K2 / R2  ].
acceleration  a = gsin / [ 1 + K2 / R2 ].
Where, s = distance of inclined plane
K = radius of gyration
R =  radius of symmetrical body
(d) Angular velocity of a point whose motion  is in a plane:
r2d/dt = 2v * p
where p = perpendicular from the point O upon the tangent at P to the path          of the moving particle.

(e) The large moment of inertia helps keeping the motion uniform.

(f) If a number of torques acted on  a system and the system is in rotational            equilibrium, then  clockwise torque = anticlockwise torque.

2.ROLLING MOTION ON A  INCLINED PLANE

      mgh = 1/2mv2 [1 + I/mr2 ]
t = 1/sin 2h [ 1 + I / mr2 ] / g

I = moment of inertia
therefore two bodies of the same shape but of different  masses and radii reach the bottom at the same time.

If you have absolutely  no idea what the answer is........and if u hav some idea about the concept.....then the following can useful........
1.If one the answer is substantially longer,it could be the right answer?
2.If there are two exact opposites the answer could be one of the two.
3.Statements that are ardent and use definitive words, such as "always ",
"all","must","every time","none","never", are usually false.
4.Statements that have language, such as "usually","most often","likely","probably","could","might","should", and "rarely",are always true
5.If two answers sound alike,choose one of them.
6.If two numbers differ only by decimal ponit(and others are not close ) choose one of them..ex- 2.3,6,1.5,15 we can either choose 1.5 or 15.
7.When u don't know the right answer , look for the wrong one to eliminate options.
8.If u are supposed to read a passage and answer questions about it, read the question  first.That will tell you what  you're looking for...
NOTE-always remember a guess is a guess.
don't always try it...apply it where ever necessary

rate the following article if found useful and do pass ur comments:-
1.When a pendulum is kept in a car which is sliding down, then
T= 2 [L / gcos  ] where  is angle of inclination.
2.if a simple pendulum oscillates in a non-viscous liquid of density ,then its time
period is T=2 [ L / ( 1 - )  ].
3.If the mass m attached to a spring oscillates in a non-viscous liquid of density ,
then its time period is given by T= 2 [ m/k (1- / )  ].=density of mass
suspended
4.If the time period of one spring is T1, and that of second spring is  T2,   and if they  are connected in series,then Tseries = T1 2 + T2 2  and if they are connected in
parallel Tparallel =T1 T2 / [T1 2 + T2 ].
5.In the case of a balanced wheel or torsional pendulum,
T=2   [ I / C ]. where I = moment of inertia, C=torsional constant=restoring
torque per unit length.
6. When a ball of mass m is made to oscillate in the neck of an air chamber having volume V and neck area A, then T=2 [ mV / pA2 ].
7. If a person sitting on an oscillating swing stands up , the time period of the swing decreases.

Community shelf Community shelf -> shortcut way to find hybridisation -> Go to message
This Post 64 points    (12 Olaaa!! Perrrfect answer.   in 14 votes )   [?]

1st step    :  count the no. of valence electrons[ V ]
2nd step   :   now divide V by 8 ,if V >8
or
divide V by 2 ,if  V <=8                                   -[1]
if the remainder is still  not zero then
again divide it by 2,                                         - [2]
therefore the final value = quotient in 1+ quotient in 2
as    shown in the example
3rd step    :  compare the above obtained value with the table given below :-
sp          -   2
sp2        -   3
sp3        -   4
sp3d      -   5
sp3d2    -   6
sp3d3    -   7
ex:- for  c2h6
step  1   -   2[4 ] + 6[1] = 4+6=10
step  2    -   as 14>8
14/8, quotient=1  as remainder  = 6 which is not equal to zero
therefore 6 / 2   quotient=3
therefore final value=1+3=4
comparing with the table given above
the hybridisation is sp3.
note -  this is not applicable  to all compounds
