let us consider ABCD to be in order. now we have to insert 2 people between them.

1st case: the other two persons(E&F) will be together

2nd case : the other two persons will not be together

no. of ways ⁵C₂* 2!=20 ways

total ways=10+20=30

the mistake made by kvenkan was that if we insert the other people in position 1 & 5 or 2 & 5(see fig below) there is no difference in the arrangement.

The question says how many times will eight occur & not how many nos. with 8 are possible therefore in the second case since 27 nos. are possible(having Two eights)

therefore no.of eights = 27 * 2=54

similarly in the third case only one no. 888 is possible having three eights

therefore total ways are 243 + (27*2) + (1*3)

=300

therefore no. of eights occuring are 300 whereas nos. possible are 271

bcoz in the given condition x^y+1=z where x,y,z are primes

x has to be an even prime no. because if x is taken as odd the square(or raised to any power) of it will give a odd no. & by adding 1 we will get an even no. but z being prime cannot be even therefore x = 2 , y = 2, z = 5, also we take y = 2 because for other values of y(i.e y =3,5,7etc.), z will become divisible by 3.
