well, in institutes like Bits, IIts there are some exceptions in packages(20l +), but the avg. students dont earn much more than an avg student in Thapar. The avg salaries in Bits and Thapar are the same, just that in Thapar salaries dont go beyond 10l. If you can work hard in BIts you can reach that level(20l+), so its your choice.
See factors like home proximity etc.

Cs I have got, and I may get an Msc(Hon) at 285 after seeing the 1st iteration.

Thapar is 2 hours from my home. I am interested in doing CS, next pref. is mech. I am kind of inclining away from Thapar due to paid seats
(lack of feeling of accomplishment)

academically Thapar might have an edge, but overall PEC is slightly better. It has lesser discipline and there is slogging in Thapar. PEC is in Chand. so better insts. for CAt etc. But stream wise if you get IT then go for PEC, but I would prefer Cs at Thapar over Mech in PEC due to personal interest. Actually I am in the same position at 5048AIR. Though I will get more personal satisfaction in PEC as there are no paid seats! Read my 'A mech Engs career' post.

Try LG c25 something. Its about 5000, and has GPRS, VGA camera, MP3 with 64MB memory. You may also try the Hair phones. Theres a 4000-5000 touchscreen phone with 128 MB memory and MP3 but no camera. Perfect for college. Though the brand is still unreliable in the phone market.

1.If a mech(PEC) eng with an Mba degree from a good college, can rise to the position of CEOs and Presidents in companies as easily as a Comp/ECE eng.

2.And is a high level experienced Mech job, office oriented or is it always Machine-floor oriented.

3.What will be the avg starting salary for Mech(PEC) student and what is the avg of good Mechs after 5-6 years of experience.

4. If I do Mech from PEc as well as many courses from NIIT (as timings are just 8-12), can I compete with Cs students in IT sector jobs?

5.Is Mechanics highly involved in this branch, or Engines, Fluids dominate.

check out the opening and closing ranks at ccb.nic.in. They are fairly constant over the years for state-quota in nits.

well, in the case you have mentioned, it all depends upon the no. of seats in a branch in that institute reserved for a particular state. It also depends upon the closeness of that NIT to that state, so students with higher ranks also will prefer that. If 1 seat is reserved for a state and a student from that state is getting X rank, and 2 seats are reserved for another state and the student is getting a lesser(worse) rank, he might still have an advantage. Some branches dont even have seats for particular states.

hey illuminati, In any of the best nits except allahabad , I will not get CS, and may get Mech at best in Warangal. And I will not get DCE with my aieee rank. and IIIT-A , if I get I will surely get it but chances are remote, though I may get Amethi campus but thats a risk.

I got 5048 air in aieee and have got CS in Thapar, and nay get Mech in PEC. So which should I prefer? I know there are a few better options but home proximity is imp too. Though PEc is slightly better but is it worth the stream difference?

I got 5048 AIR 148 Pb rank in AIEEE.

1. I have got CS in Thapar.

2. I can get Mech in PEC.

3. I may get CS or Electronics in BIT, Mesra.

4. Mech. in the top NITs.

5. At 285, I may get Msc. in Bits Pilani.

6. Cs or some other in NIT Allahabad.

7. IIIt A, Amethi Campus

These are some factors which are important for me:

1. Home proximity is important, but not everything.

2. I hate semiconductors in that BIT option of ECE.

3. I think I would not be able to adjust in south, esp Trichy ( totally diff from Punjab in all respects, no offence)

PLease tell me what would you have done if you were in my place.

Please compare the placements of Mech. in PEC to CS/ECE in Thapar. Where should I go, as standard of PEC is on the rise and I have got 5048 AIR from Punjab.

Rajat, I read in the PEC brochure that there is no second round of counselling. Not sure though..
And Sahil, thanks for the reply, but not considering the fees which would you prefer? And that discipline thing I think was till two years ago, as now the Dean is from IIT Kanpur and is believed to catapult PEC to great heights, now that thing is diminishing(indiscipline). Arent PEC placements better than Thapar? I would def prefer Cs in PEC if I can get it , Can I?

What should I do with 5048 AIR and 148 Punjab rank. I am pretty confident of getting Cs in Thapar. I am not sure the CS or Mech in PEC? I have equal interest in both of them.

Try showing them the Outlook rankings, And especially mention its placement score in that list 15.8 which is way above DCE, any NITor Thapar and comparable to IIT Guwahati.

Forget about DCE flip( no offence ), But Mech on PEC is highly possible. And yes only the AIR is considered. Hey Praveen can I be sure of Mech on PEC?
