while considering torque acting on any object for eg say a ladder is it necessary to take torque only about free end like the one in contact with the floor or the wall cant we take the torque about centre of mass?

two balls having masses m and 2m are fastened to two light strings of same length
l .The other end of the strings are fixed at O. the strings are kept in the same horizontal line and th eis released from rest . the collision between the balls is elastic
(a) find velocities of balls just after collision
(b) how high will the balls rise after the collision

THANKS Waterdemon BUT .....

Its still a bit confusing
resultant velocity of plane = sum of 2 vectors wind velocity and velocity of plane

if angle between them is 30 dgrees then the direction of resultant velocity will be between wind V. and plane velocity
then in that case the angle between plane velocity and wind velocity will not be 30 dgrees
