K. i looked at the ans n figd dis out
consider k=d^2y/dx^2 +2dy/dx
k=dk/dx
so k=ae^x
now plug in n solve..

I sort of understood what amrish was saying.
I saw d ans n did some golmaal substitution to get the ans.

See the fact that an nth degree eqn can have only n roots is true for a polynomial equation with rational coefficients.
when u bring in complex numbers and their conjugates, theres a discrepancy.
for ur eqn
z^4+z'=0 (z'-- conjugate.)
z^4=-z'
take modulus
|z|^4=|z|
so |z|=0 or |z|=1 (the other 2 solns are meaningless)
|z|=0--->z=0 1 soln
|z|=1--->|z|^2=0--->zz'=0
z'=1/z
substitute
z^4+1/z=0
z^5=-1
this eqn obv has 5 roots
total 6 roots

Spidey,
Sorry, but you are completely wrong
Who said derivative of a function<the function???????
x^4-1
derivative at x=1 > fn at x=1
so ur line of reasoning is wrong!!!

I see a flaw in the question!
Image can be formed by plane mirror under the condition x<y.
Bt den img by mirror will be on d oder side,
now contrarily,
if x>y den only 1 image will b formed as lite rays frm d mirror cant form an indepdt img??
Correct me if im wrong

q.4)
b and c
The extension of the spring will be lower because of the buoyant force on the bloc.
So A reads <2
now there will be a reaction force to the buoyant force , on the water by d bloc.
so B >5

As for the proof of this result, Rohit a.k.a Sandeep is rite.
Consider the conjugate of the expression,
Subtract both --that shud be an integer,
now do some jugglery , multiply both n get this result
