if you dont get it by reasoning (hsbhatt sir's method), then i suggest u do it by rigorous solving by using sin-1x + sin-1y = sin-1[x[ ] (1-y2) + y[ ](1 - x2) ]

though that method is extremely mundane

ganesha1991, how can the answer be independent of 'l'??

anyway, i think the answer is \frac {2v +/- \sqrt {4v^2 - 4 \mu gl}}{\mu g}

EDIT: its 2 v (plus or minus) root of....

after substituting x^2 = t, since the degree of numerator and denominator are same, then this can be written as

1 + A/(t+3) + B/(t-5) = (t+1)(t+4)/(t+3)(t-5)

the basic idea behind electrostatic shielding is that, the electric FIELD inside a cavity of a metallic shell is 0
because of this, even when the shell is placed in some field, the electric field inside the shell = 0 and hence, any equipment (which may get damaged due to electric field) will NOT get damaged..
