K D Joshi is no doubt an excellent book.... He fantastically explains and guides you as to how to solve problems through exact thought processes.... His solved question papers are good....
But one thing to complain is the lack of solved examples... True, it is a book to improve your concepts and build a strong foundation... But it can never be used as a standalone book

I would like to add,
we take eqn as f(y)=ax+b because, this fn on diff, we get constant value, which shows that it is either strictly increasing, decreasing or constant fn... We automatically eliminate constant case as we have the values given... This shows that the graph can either be in form of forward slash or backward slash... We thus substitute the givn values in their obvious sets to get values of a and b and thus, the function is obtained....
In this eg, the fn is
f(y) = x + 1
and
f(y) = -x + 1
