  • Waves are classified into mechanical & non-mechanical based on the vibrations.
  • Most of the waves are mechanical waves.
    • Vibration is movement of particles from their original positions
Frequency is defined as no. of vibrations per sec.
              f= 1/T
             f=1/2pie rootk/m    for SHM,
             f=1/2pie rootl/g

Superposition of waves:

  • It is overlap of two waves to give new wave.
  • If two waves are in phase i.e. coincide, then frequency of new wave increases& it in same phase as initial waves.
  • If they are out of phase, then new wave frequency is 0
 IMP POINTS:

  • The medium is not transported with the wave.
  • A wave?s, velocity depends on the medium.
  • Any wave that is periodic will display a repeating pattern when graphed as a function of position.
  • The distance spanned by one repetition is called WAVE LENGTH
  • V=LAMBDA/T;V=LAMBDA(f)
