since tan a + cot a = 2 this means that both the functions posses their maximum value at this point, and we know that tan x is maximum at pi/4 so we can say that a = pi/4 and hence sin a = 1/sqrt(2). if u want to do this question in your head only and not on paper u can use such ways of maximum function values and minimum function values !

Three positive charges, each having a charge 'q', are placed on the vertices of an equilateral of side = 'a' , what is the velocity of each particle when the distance between them is doubled i.e. each side of the equilateral triangle now becomes = '2a' ? (initial velocity is not mentioned in the question) PLEASE reply quickly !
