Catalogs Discussion Forums -> Electricity -> What is the direction of electric field through a conductor?Explain how! -> Go to message

In electrostatics, there are no electric field lines inside a conductor.
As far as the question of ''how'' is concerned, it is because a conductor has a large number of free electrons and if you try to introduce an electric field inside a conductor, the electrons arrange themselves in such a way to cancel out all the electric field( as they will be stable in the absence of electric field and every particle wants to attain its state of stability).

Rate me if this helped you. If not understood, tell me. I will explain again.

Yaar JD Lee is a very high level book and most of the topics in it are not relevant to JEE. Most advisable book is NCERT. 95% of Inorganic in JEE comes from NCERT.

Well mine solution is similar,
Let the foot of perpendicular from Q to the directrix be A. Then AQ=QS(property of parabola). Thus required distance is AQ+QP.
This is shortest when AQP is a straight line i.e., y=4. This cuts parabola at x=4. Thus Q is (4,4)

Then my approach is correct. I have a one line solution to this question. I will be posting it after 1/2-1 hour.
Let other's have a try.

P(8,4) is a point in the plane of the parabola y2=4x, S is its focus. Find the point Q on the parabola such that SQ+QP is minimum.

Just wanted to check the answer as it is not given in the book. I am getting Q(4,4) Am I right?

The answer is irrational no.
Log(Base2)7= Ln7/Ln2 where Ln is log to the base e. And as 7 is not a multiple of 2, it will be an irrational no.

Descartes rule only tells the number of +ve or -ve roots of an equation on the basis of change of signs. It does not tell whether an equatiion has real roots or not?

Yaar rohit
dekh sahi baat to yeh hai ki jo condition tumhari hai waisi hi condition almost har kisi ki hoti hai. But the fact of the matter is that some have very bad condition(like you) while some get over this trauma.
Is problem ko to sirf tum hi theek kar sakte ho. Others can only give advise. When you get paper in ur hand close ur eyes, take a deep breath, think which topics are ur best prepared, start doing the paper from the questions of those topics. This will give you confidence.(I do it that's why telling you to do it).
As far as using rough space is concerned always try to do the rough work of problem in front of that question only(so that you don't get confused afterwards) and use a PENCIL to do rough work so that you can rub again and again and you will not fall short of rough space.
All the best.

Rate me if you find my advise useful.
